Program Overview

The Smart Meter Accelerated Rollout is an initiative requiring all outdated electricity meters across Australia to be replaced with digital smart meters by the end of 2030. This program is driven by a federal mandate to modernise the country’s electricity network.

As a Tier 1 Field Service Provider, Macquarie Electric delivers compliant smart metering installations for Meter Providers across Australia, including CT Metering and Embedded Network Solutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Smart Metering?

Analog meters are being replaced by Smart meters, as they digitally communicate consumption information to the consumer and electricity suppliers. Smart meters typically record energy near real time.

  • Will a smart meter allow us to track energy use more accurately?

Yes. Smart meters provide real-time consumption data, allowing facilities to monitor load patterns and track usage across systems. This data can be used for budgeting, ESG reporting and operational planning. It also eliminates estimated bills and provides greater transparency with energy providers.

  • Who do I contact if I want to upgrade my electricity meter?

Customers can contact their energy retailer to upgrade their electricity meter to a smart meter.

  • I'm an electrical subcontractor interested in working on the Smart Meter Upgrade Program. How can I get involved?

To express your interest, please visit the Careers section on the Macquarie Electric website and complete the Expression of Interest form. Once submitted, our team will review your details and contact you if your application meets our requirements.
